Study Confirms: Busway Eases Freeway Traffic .

Since the opening of the cross Valley bus line in October, the traffic on the Ventura Freeway has eased somewhat an article in the LA Times reports.

It seems to constantly surprise people that the Busway has a positive role to play in the life of Los Angeles. Every accident seems to embolden those who want the whole line torn down. Despite the fact that it reduces air pollution, creates an 11 mile long bike path, opens the opportunity to experience life without a car, and allows the disabled, elderly and non-drivers mobility—it is still somehow a “bad” idea.

Now that statistical studies are confirming the Busway’s usefulness, will perceptions and stereotypes about the “kind of folks who ride the bus” determine whether we get more public transportation? Let’s hope facts beat fictions.

That’s not such a good idea. You’ll end duplicating the Metrolink service, but in a back-assward manner.

You could serve Burbank Airport, but after that, take the train north to Sun Valley and then possibly Sylmar.

The other option would be to head north on Van Nuys Boulevard.

There needs to be a north-south project along either Van Nuys Boulevard or the 405 freeway, and following the 405 down to LAX and then the South Bay.

  2. A cliche only becomes a cliche when it is true: “If you build it, they will come.”

Although the Orange Line ridership estimates were low-balled, a reasonable estimate would have been 10,000 trips per day at the start, and we’re already 6,000 over that.

Now they’re talking about extending the Orange Line to Burbank. NO! We say extend the Red Line to Burbank, Bob Hope Airport, the Empire Center, and the Metrolink Station. It’s only 4.1 miles for the terminus in North Hollywood. Red Line to Burbank!
