Once Upon a Mattress.

Our street has been struck twice as illegal dumpers have left a mattress and now what looks like a bed frame at the end of our block where Hamlin bisects Columbus Avenue.

The problem is partially caused by the neglect of the property owners at Signature Plaza (6450 Sepulveda Boulevard Van Nuys CA 91411). They actually own Hamlin Street west of Columbus to Sepulveda. The street was taken over by the mall in the early 1990’s and Hamlin was turned into a dead end at Columbus. Since that time, a weed strewn dead end has turned into a romping playground for prostitution, homeless people and the taggers.

A neighbor has written to the City Attorney’s Office about the blighted property and we are all hoping that the intercession of LAPD Senior Lead Office Jose Verdin can put an end to this ongoing problem.

The owner of the poorly maintained mall (home of 99 Ranch Market, Sam Woo and a Pho 999) is the Kar Fung Company Limited of San Gabriel, CA. Maybe their development director, Scott S. Sterlekar (ssskfc@pacbell.net) can help.
