  2. Just to clarify…

The Official name of the historic 1933 building is the “Valley Municipal Building.” It is also known by some (erroneously) as the “Van Nuys City Hall.” It was designed as a smaller version of the the 29-story City Hall at 200 N. Spring Street in Los Angeles. It houses the satellite City Council Chambers, various municipal offices, and the temporary offices of the Children’s Museum (under construction at Hansen Dam). This is important because in the past, many non-profits held office space in the outdated building before its seismic retrofit and restoration in 2004/2005. (The Child Care Resource Center – which operates the County-owned, newly opened childcare center next door – got its start in the Municipal Building decades ago.)

A final point of interest: after the 1994 earthquake and not so long ago, there were plans to raze this building and replace it with a new one. Thankfully, someone saw the potential of rehab versus teardown and just built the new building next to it in the form of the Braude Center!
