Our neighbors cleaned out their garage this past weekend. Much of the stuff inside had belonged to Athena’s grandmother who lived here for over 40 years.
There was old California pottery, costume jewelry, a 1936 Chicago Senn High School Yearbook, a sewing machine, tarnished silver, turquoise Italian glass, framed Japanese prints.
A portrait of a middle aged woman, with lipstick and a bouffant hairdo was sitting in one corner of the lawn. This had been the best friend of the lady who lived here. She was dead now, just like almost all the young graduates of Senn High in 1936.
And then there was the present day drama, not inside any box. The current man of the house, Athena’s husband Daniel, is serving in Iraq. There is a service star hung in the front window of the house.
Tammy and her friend David, who live around the corner, were looking through all the items, and seeing if anything valuable might be found.
