Christmas Party at the Warner’s.

Every year, our neighbors throw a Christmas party in their home here in Van Nuys.

On a street (and in a city) where people live for 30 years without knowing the names of their neighbors, the Warners have stubbornly brought people together under a heterogeneous umbrella of camaraderie and caring. One can meet a gay couple, a gorgeous young woman, unemployed actor , a staunchly conservative millionaire …and still enjoy turkey meatballs, unusual wines, laughter and dancing.

This past year was full of trials for the hosts, yet they look forward to 2007 to bring fresh opportunities for renewal and love.

  1. Good on the Warners for keeping the cheer despite their recent trials. I hope to meet people like that when I’m down in LA (which should be soon enough).

With regard to not knowing one’s neighbors, it can happen in any city. But I understand that LA’s geography can add to one’s sense of isolation. I have pretty good networking and follow-up skills, fortunately, and have yet to lack for friends and acquaintances during my adult life. (I had a lonely childhood, but that’s another story.)

    Happy New Year!

  2. Everybody says we should do this sort of thing, but few do. When someone finally doe sit we all say, “we should have done this sooner.”

    Merry Christmas!
