Imagine if one could travel from Valencia, CA to Long Beach by way of monorail? Or picture this snaking its way through the densely populated neighborhoods along the #10 from Santa Monica to Alhambra and beyond all the way to Palm Springs?

Think of the car trips that would not be.

Would we need to be in Iraq if we didn’t use oil to drive our SUV’s?

Why wouldn’t we even consider monorails?

Give me one good reason.

    In theory, its a fun idea, but there are logistics/maintenance issues that make monorail a bad choice.

    The best bet would be light rail down the 405 from Santa Clarita to Long Beach. And some of those trains at peak hours should be limited stop express trains, i.e. maybe only stop every five miles.

    One good reason: Cost. L.A. is sprawling, much more so than (even more) densely populated Japan.

    The subways for example don’t go enough places to be helpful to most.

    Double decking key freeways with express lanes would not only cost a fraction, provide more bang for the buck, but actually give the consumer/taxpayer what they want.

    If we’re in Iraq for oil, why didn’t we take it after we won the Gulf War in 1992? Why won’t we take it this time?

    Re: SUVs – Why attack SUVs? A Porsche gets the same or worse gas mileage as many SUVs, while the Ford Escape SUV even comes in hybrid SUV and gets 30 mpg.

    I was watching channel 7 news, they were doing a story on LA in 2022.

    Someone proposed a monorail over Olympic or Wilshire.

    I think its an awesome idea. I must have been brainwashed by my visits to Disneyland.

    I don’t think it’s a cliche to say that if we didn’t waste oil, by using public transport more, that we wouldn’t have to fight wars in oil rich lands. It’s common sense. And if we had a monorail from Valencia to LB, some people might just ride it from Brentwood to Sherman Oaks thereby saving time, oil and traffic.
    Another cliche that’s true.

    If there’s a monorail from LB to Valencia, there will be 50 stops and it will take 2.5 hours to get there.

    Funny you mention that if we have monorails we won’t be in Iraq and have picture up of a monorail from Japan. Japan has a few hundred troops in Iraq, the first time since the end of WWII that their soldiers were deployed abroad. The second largest contingent of foreign troops of course, is home to the London Underground.

    Good writers are orignal, they avoid cliches. Especially patently non-sensical ones such as that oil consumption is not-material to mass transit operations.
