Bravo’s new reality show, “Flipping Out” is all about a residential real estate investor named Jeff Lewis who finds “undervalued” homes in L.A. and then sets upon them to rid them of any defects or deformities so he can turn around and sell them for profit.
I liked the show. I flipped a house in 2004, here in Van Nuys, and even under pressure, financial and legal, enjoyed the experience. Mr. Lewis has a list of daily items that must be accomplished by his staff and contractors, and demands they do their job well. What is wrong with that? He also takes his dogs for acupuncture and consults a psychic. That’s about average behavior in Hollywood….
People keep saying that the market has changed in LA, that the days of flipping and making a profit are over. I don’t see it. The homes in the upmarket areas of LA keep going through the roof, and even the poorest areas start at half a million.
Mr. Lewis has the gay eye that can determine where a lamp should be hung, a planter placed, a sink installed. He can differentiate between dove gray and sky gray, and knows which lavender compliments his custom paved driveway. We need more people like him in Van Nuys where shoping carts and mattresses are considered appropriate lawn decor.
And Mr. Lewis, if you need another assistant, I’m available. I’m a former employee of Lauren Lexton.

And he said he thinks the psychic “makes things up that she doesn’t know”. Isn’t that the definition of a psychic?
He came off extremely badly in last night’s episode. I hope he can continue his little business because he has a repulsive factor of +10. He deserves to be alone both in work and in his personal life.

Holy Smokes. I cannot believe the episode on August 14. Sure there is stress when it comes to working in real-estate, but I cannot believe what Jeff is saying about Tori. This is nuts. She is extremely gifted. I know for a fact that she has predicted many accurate things for him. Right now, it seems that Jeff is having a hard time giving ANYONE credit for how they help him. It really saddens me that Jeff is trying to discredit Tori after all she’s done for him. She’s not even there to defend herself for Pete’s sake!

I love the show. It was so interesting especially Tori Hartman on Flipping Out. I’m so sick of reality TV, everybody’s acting. Tori’s the only one not acting – she should have her own show, but then she’s not in the closet so Bravo wouldn’t give it to her – she doesn’t cook, style hair or redecorate. Too bad – do they think GAY people ONLY want to see GAY people? I prefer Desperate Housewives.

I wish we could attract a larger gay population in Van Nuys but the architecture here is kind of boring. I know there’s a movement to fix up the ranch style homes of the 50’s and 60’s but I don’t think that’s going to be enough—it just doesn’t have the potential of Silverlake. The Spanish style homes are to few and few between. Bummer. It would be great if Van Nuys had some kind of identity. For now it’s just that city between the “good” part of the Valley and total obscurity.
