Creepy Giuliani.

There is something about watching Rudy Giuliani that is just creepy. In an hour of being interviewed by Tim Russert on “Meet the Press”, Giuliani seemed to constantly slither in and out of his ethical conundrums.

There was the Bernard Kerik story, the Judith Nathan story, the slimy connection between his firm and Dubai. He seems to be a man who constantly needs to fly his way out of a stormy gray, ethical cloud.

It was difficult (listening to him on MTP) to understand his positions on issues which seemingly tilt towards the simplistic and Neo-Con. His advisor, Norman Podhertz, thinks we should bomb Iran. Giuliani wants to keep us fighting in Iraq, “until the job is done”. Yet he praises those Arab nations (called “allies”) which prohibit freedom of speech, religion and suppress human rights.

Giuliani is extremely un-Republican on the social issues, with abortion and homosexuality OK with him. As mayor of New York, he surely came into contact with gay people as well as voters who support abortion? But how can he win, without a drawl or a Baptist affiliation, south of the Mason-Dixon line?

His one claim to greatness is that he was there in New York City on September 11, 2001. Based on his “heroism” he has the wartime experience to lead this nation. Imagine if Dwight Eisenhower had been the Mayor of Honolulu on December 7, 1941? Would that make him a war hero?

Giuliani may have a record of accomplishment as a federal prosecutor, and the administrative and executive experience earned as a Mayor, but he somehow lacks the gravitas and character that are needed in the Oval Office.

  1. No, what was “creepy” was watching Tim Russert spend the ENTIRE hour confronting Giuliani with rumor and inuendo, and never once asking a direct question about an actual issue. Contrast that to the 60 minutes worth of softballs Russert throws to candidates like Obama (tell us, senator, what your vision for America is. Tell us about what it’s like to be black in America…) – barf.

NBC/MS-NBC has become a complete and utter joke. Nothing but an extension of the DNC.
