Van Nuys Flood: 1952; Lard and Water.

From the wonderful world of the USC Digital Archives, comes this photo of a grocery store on Hatteras and Van Nuys Blvd. (one block south of Oxnard) after heavy rains in January 1952.

Modern eyes are shocked by such words as “Lard”, but this fat was honestly advertised and consumed, and judging from old photographs, very few Americans back then were overweight.
