One of the occasional blogs I peruse is Larry Harnisch’s THE DAILY MIRROR.
Mr. Harnisch reprints LA history as seen through its print media.
Read the story below, about an explosion at an apartment building in North Hollywood, that completely destroyed 10 units and caused $30,000 worth of damage.
They sure could write well in the old days, with those fear inducing words: hoax, suspect, blast, blown-off, kill, FBI, and tomb.
Sure, Wayne, can you send me scans?

Larry,
Re-watched the “60 minutes” episode recap of Don Hewitt’s life tonight (Jan. 24, 2010). The old Dragna stoolie talking about Frank Niccoli’s murder got me thinking about Jean (Spangler) again. Her sister-in-law told me what happened. Sophie passed away a couple of years ago, but I am confident from what she told me that Jean DID NOT die with Niccoli (or Ogul). Nor was it Kirk Douglas (who fastly declined an interview request for the episode I did with E! for M&S back in 2001).

Hi, Larry-
You may not remember me.
I was at The Times from 1957 to 1971, starting as a staff photographer and subsequently serving as editor of the women’s section, photo editor, chief photographer and photo assignment editor. Seems like a long time ago, and I guess it has been a long time.
Anyway, I have a couple of old glass [plate photos I have been unable to identify. Thought you might be able to help me.
Cordially,
wayne Kelly
