The wikipedia entry on Van Nuys indicate that Van Nuys (and much of the valley) had been exploited for profit by property speculators. The grand old dame still hurts from the brutality of the rape.
Or some (the SF Valley secessionists) would say the rape continues today.
BTW I like the new blog look, but I miss seeing the links on the side bars. Oh well.
