Those “ugly boxes” actually once were even uglier. Wood telephone poles and a bulky black power line used to be located in front of them on that section of PCH. I think they were there until around the late 1980s.

The problem with the urban landscape around PCH isn’t highway width, it’s those ugly boxes at the side of the road blocking the ocean view for everybody else.
