Right along the Orange Line Busway, just east of Woodley on Victory, the sprinklers are broken and have been so, by my estimation, for about a year. When they are on, their broken heads flood the grounds with wasted water and are now creating a new Lake Balboa.
Anyone ever laugh at Valley street names. Balboa was the Spanish explorer in Panama who came to a high hill–and saw the great ocean ahead–the Pacific.
Once upon a time, Balboa Bl was supposed to go where Balboa didn’t go–all the way to the Pacific Ocean–over the Santa Monicas to the beach.
Funny that Balboa Bl, this attempt to turn a name and a street into a destiny, fell short–and you’d never know why it had been named Balboa.
