House of Marble Squares: Studio City.

Inspired perhaps by those giant Dim Sum restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley, someone recently built brand new (not remodeled) this Studio City home with a facade of 16 x16 inch marble tiles. The entire exterior is plastered in them.

To my whimsical mind, unschooled in the finer points of architectural composition, it seems like a giant luxury bathroom. Luckily, it will never have to be painted. The owners can just spray it with Dow “Scrubbing Bubbles” and it will look like new!

You should see the nastiness on Sylvan just east of Whitsett. Same thing. Totally disturbing!! It is a tragedy. I need a Beeps malted to console myself…

Maybe it’s time to develop some community building standards…before one of these gets built next to YOU.

Or, you could just let the market work, and watch as the house sits on the market for eight months, and no builder ever does anything this stupid again.

Holy balls is that thing ugly, though.

This is a spec house, if you can believe that. The contractor built this (all new, by the way, not remodeled) 6,000 sq ft house on a 7,000 ft lot.

This reminds me of the old Amoco building on Wacker Drive in Chicago, now known as the Aon Center or something like that. Its original cladding was Italian marble that started falling off in chunks within a year of installation, unable to withstand the brutality of a Chicago winter. The building ended up having to be reclad in granite.

It looks horrid. They might have been trying to replicate the Getty Center with the look. At least it wasn’t the Cathedral.

wouldn’t it suck if they went on vacation for a couple of weeks and came back to find that someone had stripped off all the stone and sold it for drug money ?

    oh… my… god…

What a waste of what looks like travertine. With vinyl windows?
    What were these people thinking?

I often want to go knock on the door
of one of these places and just tell
the owner how hideously ugly his/her
place looks, and how rude and
arrogant of them it is to force
a monstrosity on the rest of the
    neighborhood.
