I’ve wondered about this building, which is on the corner of Sunset and Vine.

It has been at least five years since they ripped down the old facade and then sheathed the whole thing in white. Now they are putting up the curtain wall, which is taking forever.

But of course, there is always a place for an enormous billboard. The advertising appeared seemingly overnight.

Maybe the construction company needs to be instructed by the advertising people on how to get things going faster….

    This was called the Sunset Vine Tower and I think it was designed by noted architects DMJM in early 1960s. The Modern Committee of the Los Angeles Conservancy tried (and failed) to save it from the re-skin. I don’t know about a fire, but I do know that the building was not meeting fire code and that was why it was shut down.

    It used to be the tallest building in L.A. It had a great club at the top of it called 360, I think, and the building had a fire five years ago. The fire closed the building. Since then, it’s been a long, slow, slog to now — nearly finished.
