JB Van Nuys, scion of the famous family who founded Van Nuys, died on September 3, 1962.
Immensely wealthy, he chose to make his home, not in Van Nuys, but in Pasadena.

The wikipedia entry on Van Nuys indicate that Van Nuys (and much of the valley) had been exploited for profit by property speculators. The grand old dame still hurts from the brutality of the rape.
Or some (the SF Valley secessionists) would say the rape continues today.
BTW I like the new blog look, but I miss seeing the links on the side bars. Oh well.
